熟練掌握發(fā)音規(guī)律是英語(yǔ)口語(yǔ)的基礎(chǔ)，是進(jìn)行口頭交流最基本的先決條件。雖說(shuō)已有一定的英語(yǔ)基礎(chǔ)，但基本功扎實(shí)與否完全視個(gè)人情況而定。發(fā)音有困難的，首先必須糾正不正確的發(fā)音習(xí)慣，找出薄弱環(huán)節(jié)強(qiáng)化突破。如果最終能夠做到正確熟練地聽(tīng)音辨詞則更好，如果不行則在交談中至少不應(yīng)引起聽(tīng)者即考官和另一考生的誤解。
由于口語(yǔ)是借助聲音語(yǔ)調(diào)，將說(shuō)話的意圖直接傳達(dá)給聽(tīng)話人，所以正確的語(yǔ)音語(yǔ)調(diào)是任何口語(yǔ)考試中的必考項(xiàng)目。因此在口試備考中，了解并掌握基本的語(yǔ)音知識(shí)十分重要。

語(yǔ)音知識(shí)還包括單詞中的重讀與非重讀音的連續(xù)與失去爆破音的同化和弱化、語(yǔ)句重音、意群、節(jié)奏、升降調(diào)以及語(yǔ)速等。因?yàn)檫@些都是英語(yǔ)中所特有的語(yǔ)音知識(shí)，要想把英語(yǔ)說(shuō)得標(biāo)準(zhǔn)，必須過(guò)好語(yǔ)音關(guān)。
